How to Wash Bamboo Sheets

Separate The Laundry :

While washing bamboo sheets, separate them from rough fabrics, such as towels, to avoid getting pills on the sheet. This will result in a rough surface on the very renowned soft sheets. Even if you wash bamboo sheets alone, be careful to separate them according to colors to prevent darker colors bleeding onto lighter colors although it’s very highly unlikely to happen.

Use A Mild Detergent :

When it comes to bamboo sheets, eco-friendliness is the keyword. You can use chlorine free stain remover before washing but using bleach and vinegar is totally forbidden as it can easily create a hole in the delicate sheet. Use a mild detergent with no trace of bleach or phosphates to ensure durability and softness of the fabric. People tend to use natural, mild and liquid detergents for this purpose.

Handwashing Vs Machine Washing Bamboo Sheets :

Handwashing bamboo sheets, although very labor intensive and often doesn’t produce the best results, are gentler on the fabric than machine washing. Fill a tub or container with lukewarm water not exceeding 30 degrees. Soak the sheet in the tub and agitate the water by stirring it by hand or a stick for five minutes after putting in a mild detergent. Remove the sheet and fill the tub with cold and clean water. Wash the sheet by stirring as before for five more minutes. Squeeze to remove excess water and let it dry on the lines or the dryer.

For machine washing, use gentle or delicate cycle setting. If you don’t have this setting, go for the shortest normal setting in cool or cold water to preserve the quality of the sheets.

How to Dry Bamboo Sheets :

It is best to dry sheets on lines to preserve the color and texture of the fabric. If that is not possible, Use a spin dryer. But be careful and choose a low heat or airing setting and a wrinkle resistant cycle. Do not leave the sheets in the dryer for long to avoid the cringe-making wrinkles. To get the crisp feeling, you can iron on a low-heat setting. Using too much steam will cause the absorbance of the fibers to result in wearing out too early. It is best not to store them in plastic containers and cardboard, these don’t let the moisture to escape and in result turns the environment mildew and transfer acids to the fabric. Store the sheets in a cool and dry place, preferably away from direct sunlight.

Even the best of the beddings have a lifespan of a few years and it is very highly recommended to replace these sheets after 12 to 18 months of use. That doesn’t mean the old one will go to waste. Thanks to the biodegradable nature of bamboo fibers, you can always send them to landfill.
