Spring is a great time to stop and take stock of your home. After all, it’s where the saying spring cleaning comes from! Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t and shouldn’t do what you can to improve the exterior of your home at any time of the year.

Whether you have vinyl cladding, rendering, or stonework, there are a number of steps you can take to improve the look of your home. This will help it to last for longer, make it look more appealing, and help to maintain the value of your property.

Check The Roof

The roof protects you from the elements but it also protects the house. A leaking roof can cause damp problems in the home which may not even be visible at first.

Damp wood leads to wet rot which can cause your roof to sag or even collapse.

Replace any damaged or missing times as soon as you spot them!

Sort Your Front Door

You should repaint your front door regularly to keep it looking it’s best, if this doesn’t seem like a valid option then it’s time to replace it.

Not only will it make your home look more attractive, but it will also boost your security.

While you’re doing your door don’t forget to take a look at your windows, a good clean may suffice but you may even want to replace these. New windows offer a higher level of insulation and can actually help you to save money on your energy bills.

Pressure Wash

If you’ve got siding on your home then it’s a good idea to pressure wash it at least once a year. This is a simple process but you’ll either need ladders or extending poles for your pressure washer.

It’s advisable to give the walls a brush down first with some detergent, sprayed through the pressure washer. It will need to be left for several minutes.

You can then rinse the walls down with your pressure washer and leave them to dry, your home will look fantastic!

Landscape

It’s always worth thinking about your yard. Cutting any grass is a great starting point but you should also trim hedges, do any weeding and make sure your drive looks good. It may be time to replace the tarmac or gravel.

As part of this, it is worth looking at the layout of your garden and what you use it for. Clutter attracts pests and needs to be removed, you may also find it’s time to add some decking or remove hedges and fences.

Landscaping means making the garden tidy and useable for you, it doesn’t have to be ready to display at a flower show!

Just keeping it tidy will help to make the exterior of your home look more attractive.

Lights

Finally, don’t forget to add a few lights t the outside of your home. They are useful when you come home in the dark but they also make the house look fantastic at night time.
